Academic Society Activities

　　Papers and reports of the National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster have been actively resented at various academic societies and associations such as the JAFSE (Japan Association for Fire Science and Engineering) and IAFSS (International Association or Fire Safety Science) In addition, the Institute has participated n the planning and managing of activities such as lecture meetings, 'study groups, edition of publications, and related activities of academic societies.

Joint Research

　　The National Research Institute f Fire and Disaster has implemented joint research projects with universities, other national research institutes, foreign research institutes, and the like in order to promote the research on fire prevention and protection over wide areas and many spheres The Institute has also engaged in research with industry for the purpose of putting its research to practical use.

Committee Activities

　The National Research Institute f Fire and Disaster actively participates in various committees concerned with fire prevention and protection sponsored by such bodies as the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, other minis-tries and agencies, and foreign institutes concerned.

Investigation of Disasters and Fires

　　The National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster has actively complied with requests from fire protection organs to offer technical guidance concerning the clarifying of causes of disasters such as fires, or to participate in committees, thereby rendering significant services in the solution to these and related problems. The Institute has also complied with the judgments and appraisals of courts of justice regarding fires and the like.

Promotion and Popularization of Fire Prevention and Protection Technology

　　The National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster publishes the Report of National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster of Japan (twice a year), the Shoken-Syuhou (journal, once a year), the Technical Memorandum of National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster (from time to time), the Annual Report (once a year). 　　The Institute also publicly announces the results of its research The Institute accepts research students from fire protection organs, trainees from universities, as well as researchers from foreign research institutes. It also holds the All Japan Fire Fighter Technicians Meeting once a year for spreading and exchanging information of fire prevention and protection technology through mutual discussions with participants from agencies and fire protection organs. 　　In addition, the Institute holds a day for open house to the general public in order to present and spread the contents of its research.

Patents, Utility Models, etc.

　　The National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster has obtained patents and utility models regarding fire prevention and protection technology. The Institute puts equipment and instruments for fire protection to practical use aiming at a higher level of function, precision, and efficiency in terms of both hardware and software.
