Special Session "Quick Report on the Sultandagi Earthquake on February 3rd, 2002 in Turkey" Dr. H.Huseyin GULER (Middle East Technical University, Turkey), February 20th (Wed.) 17:00-

Revised program is uploaded (PDF version only, This file contains Japanese characters, 2002/2/6)

Purpose

Emergency response activities operated by local governments and fire services play a critical role in reducing life and property loss when a large earthquake causes multiple disasters simultaneously and enormously. Quick and appropriate emergency response activities are strongly dependent on the information technology and strategy on how to estimate damage immediately and accurately, how to grasp real damage promptly and precisely and how to use the information in decision-making.

The Asia-Oceania Symposium on Information Technology/Strategy for Earthquake Disaster Reduction aims at the following;

(1) Digging up problems and issues at present through reviewing the experiences on how damage information was gathered and transferred and how it was made use of in the emergency response during the 1995 Japan Hyogo-ken Nanbu (Kobe) earthquake, the 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi earthquake, the 1999 Turkey Marmara (Kocaeli) earthquake, the 2000 India Gujarat earthquake; the 2000 Sumatera earthquake and so on.

(2) Exchange of knowledge and opinions among administrators and researchers working for disaster prevention and emergency response in Asia and Oceania with respect to information strategy and technical prospect for earthquake disaster reduction in the 21st century.
